October 2016

Presidents Jottings

You may have seen in the press, the news that Sophie, Countess of Wessex completing her bicycle ride from Balmoral to Buckingham  Palace. The ride was to raise funds for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme. "What has that got to do with Lions clubs," I hear you ask!

Well it just so happens that she is our UK patron and Lions clubs throughout the UK sponsored her ride. She was reported to have said: "I must be barmy to do it!" But she did it and we must congratulate her on this marvellous feat.

Were you with us at our recent Quiz Night at the Headley Village Hall? If you were the club extends a sincere thank you for your support. The event has raised £600 which is on its way to a very worthy cause: Hearing Dogs for the Deaf. It was a great night with circa 80 people attending the quiz.

I wonder if we shall see you on Sunday 9 October at the Blackmoor Estates Apple Tasting Day?

If you have not been before, it is well worth a visit. Lots to see, fruit to taste and buy. Lots of friendly Lions to help you park as well, and a tombola and book stall as well. So don't forget to say hello.

Now that Autumn is upon us, we are planning lots of events, such as:

Centennial Bulb Planting around the memorial

Food Collections (Yellow Bags)

Bordon's Remembrance Day Ceremony

Participation at Christmas Fair

Santa's Sleigh

I will tell you more next month

The club will also be celebrating the formation of our club with a Charter Lunch - so we do have fun as well!

As you can see we do keep ourselves busy supporting your community, raising funds to help those in need.

If you think you would like to help us, then please give us a shout, through the website, the Freephone number, or when you see us out and about.
